When people think of camping in Minnesota the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in the northeastern portion of the state instantly springs to mind. For the Twin Cities residents, one is not required to drive five hours to Quetico-Superior Country to experience camping in the woods. There are plenty of options in the Twin Cities region for those who want to get away from urban life. From secluded lakeside locations to heavily wooded spots There’s something for everyone at surrounding state and regional parks. Cleary Lake Regional Park can be located within Prior Lake, in the south metro. Two separate campgrounds are maintained in the park. Red Pine campground has 5 spots for hiking in and Basswood has 15 campsites.
