With trucks now far more profitable than vehicles (the G-P deal had produced little income), the Reo board voted on May 18, 1936, to move truck assembly into the primary Lansing plant; on September 3rd, Reo formally left the auto business. Though the corporate lost almost $1.4 million on its 1936 automobiles, it was ready to put in writing off $604,000 for terminating its auto operations. Reo then turned solely to the truck area. Ironically, it could thrive there far longer than it had with automobiles, producing for the subsequent 40 or so years beneath the Reo and Diamond-Reo nameplates.
